Happy Halloween!!!

10:10pm update... A great night!! We ran out of candy and had to give out coins, a German hid in the bushes while another greeted the kids in the fog and the banana dog chased fireworks. But now I'm pooped, Radar's sacked out, so I'll have to post pictures tomorrow.

Happy Halloween!!!!

___________

We've received some contest entries that range from the realistic to the bizarre!! I'll post those before I go to bed along with any others I receive before then. As for us, we're ready for any little creatures, characters or kings that show up at our front door!!!

Spiders and bats and skulls, oh my!

Wizards and witches...

And Little Red Riding Hood with her grandmother... I think!

And, of course, a tombstone for good measure!

But despite all the spookiness on the outside of the house, I can't say the inside is quite a scary... slippery perhaps... like a banana...

... and green, like a frog...

So we'll just leave you with a quick "Happy Halloween" for now! We'll be back later.

Another contest maybe?

I was thinking that maybe I should have another contest being that it's almost Halloween and being that the blog's all decked out in spookiness!

Anyone who wants to participate just needs to e-mail a picture of their costume this year (adults, kids and pets all allowed).  Depending on how many I get, I'll either post them all or I'll post a few of my favorites for voting.

The winner will win a winkflash puzzle with their winning picture!

Entry deadline will be Saturday so that we can post the pictures for Halloween and start the voting.    As always, if no one else enters, I'll post a picture of Fanny and Radar in their costumes and they'll have to duke it out between the two of them!

Fanny can't outdo this...

I've gotten lots of e-mails with pictures of dogs in Halloween costumes.  I normally flip through them pretty quickly and smile at a few.  And I really enjoy perusing Target every year to see what new costumes they have for dogs.  Alligator, lobster, banana, etc.  But that isn't what makes Halloween great and it certainly isn't the Halloween I grew up with.

I don't know where our old Halloween pictures are, but some day soon I'll dig them up and show you how Abuelita made Halloween awesome for us growing up.  Our costumes were hand made and creative.  One of my favorite Halloween stories is about the year that the Science Pundit was the Raven (from Poe's poem).  My mom had him decked out in black feathers, beak and body... the body was a box that she'd painted black and in white gothic letters she had painted the word... "Nevermore"!   So the Science Pundit, who was 10 years old or so, goes door to door for his candy.  At one house, a lady answers the door and says, "oh my!  Look at this!  It's a crow!"  The Science Pundit, who at the ripe young age of 10 had already developed his misplaced intellectual arrogance answered with as much snottiness as he could muster... "I'm not a crow!  I'm the Raven from Edgar Allen Poe!  Don't you see the 'Nevermore'?"

Ahhhhhh Halloween!  I promise that next year I won't take the easy way out.  I'll stay away from the store shelves and get back to the heart of what makes Halloween so much fun.  And I'll try to be creative.  I'll try to come up with something for Radar and Fanny that gets a laugh... but no matter how hard I try, I don't think I'll be able to outdo this costume that I just saw on the internet.  I mean, come on... Octopug?  Fanny can't outdo that!

PS - Tio Dardo... got the message.  Footage of Radar standing.  The problem is that now that he understands that I want him to stand, he won't do it.  If I hold his hands and ask him to stand, he lets his legs and head go limp and flops back or swings in place.  If he's minding his own business and doesn't realize I'm watching and if in a moment like that I can grab the camera without him realizing that I'm shooting or filming him, then maybe.  Grammy is coming tomorrow, so maybe together we can conspire to get some footage.   Where did Radar get this stubborn streak?

Radar moments at 10 months!

Looks like Radar just had a bit of Roseola... a very common virus that almost all kids get by the time they're three years old. So good - we get to check that one off the list! Anyway, other than a bit of a rash that isn't bothering him at all, Radar seems to be back to himself.

I thought you might just enjoy some moments with Radar to give you an idea of how we spend some of our inside time.

98 %

I'm not quite 100%.

But I'm awfully close!

Thank you all for sending your happy thoughts Radar's way. No fever for most of the day and his mood has improved tremendously.

Humorless

Poor Radar is still fighting off this stinking virus. I was holding him this afternoon, cuddling to try to make him more comfortable and he barfed on my shirt. I tried to humor him this evening by putting him in his bag and swinging him.

And it wasn't that he didn't like it. He just didn't laugh like he usually does. But who can blame him for losing his sense of humor when his fever crept up to nearly 104 this evening.

It's no fun to be sick! I'm off to cuddle the little monkey now... it's the only way he's getting any sleep and if I have to, I'll hold him all night. My poor, poor baby.

I'm hoping tomorrow will bring happier and healthier news!

103

Mommy stuck a thing in my ear and it went beep.

Then she looked at it and said, "Oh no! 103!"

So I got some yummy cherry squirted
in my mouth and now I feel better.

I think I like 103!

Hoping it's nothing

Friday Morning update

After posting last night, Radar woke up again and didn't go back to sleep until midnight. Low fever still burning, so I gave him some infant Tylenol.

He tossed and turned and moaned in his sleep and at 3am he felt much hotter.

101.5 F

More Tylenol and mommy held her monkey until about 4am. Then he slept pretty well until 7am. Mommy hasn't slept very much.

This morning his fever is back down to 99.5. He's a little grumpy, but otherwise seems ok. He doesn't seem to have pain. So I'm playing it by ear right now and if his fever spikes again we'll head to the doctor.

Poor monkey. This is first fever. I hope his little immune system is strong enough to fight whatever this is off quickly. Hang in there little monkey!

When I got home this afternoon...

the monkey wasn't laughing as much as usual.

He was a bit crankier than usual.

And he was even grunting a lot.

So I felt his little forehead and it felt a little hotter than usual.

And it turns out the little monkey has a low grade fever... 99.4

He's conked out now and mommy's just hoping that it's nothing!!

Cool!

At the time of this posting (7:39am), the silly sidebar thing says that it's only 79 degrees F outside. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

But I love the cool weather around here because it gives me the chance to wear some long sleeves. And even though nothing compares with naked time, Radar doesn't seem too upset over his fall garb... or maybe it's just that mommy had to give him the normally off-limits remote controls to get him to stop screaming long enough to snap a few pictures.

I think he thinks he's a pretty cool kid!

Preparing for Halloween

Tio Dardo left a comment on yesterday's post which posed a couple of questions.

First, how does the "first steps" guessing work? Is it simply the closest guess, before or after, that wins or does it have to be exact? Well, we're pretty strict here at Radar Love, but I think we'll do "closest wins." So, even though Jenna's guess of 10 months and 3 days has now passed, she could still win or tie if Radar walks on or before the halfway point between her guess and Tio Dardo's guess of 10 months and 17 days. It's a pretty complicated algorithm, so my plan is to simply hand it over to Tia Lali once Radar does take his first steps and she'll do the calculations and declare the winner. Satisfied Dardo?

The second question was to inquire as to what Radar's first Halloween costume will be. The answer... I don't know. I had gotten him a bee outfit when in Philadelphia, but I forgot to bring it back with us. And as for Dardo's suggestion of a lobster baby (he linked to this picture)...

All I can say to that is... it's been done... this is Fanny last year.

And don't go suggesting an alligator either.

That is soooooo 2007!

So, right now it looks like Radar will either just wear his Superman (or Batman) pajamas, or I'll have to come up with something home-made. Any suggestions?

Titi and Radar

Training Grammy

Hi everybody!
Guess who came to visit?
That's right... My Grammy!

So, I thought...
let's take a picture together Grammy.
But I think she's new at this...
So I'll train her.
I have LOTS of experience!

Lesson #1
Don't drop me.

Lesson #2
Smile.
Geez Grammy... it's not that hard.

Well...
this will have to do for now.

Not to worry though. Grammy will be back in less than 2 weeks for Halloween and I'll give her another lesson then.

A perfect 10

My baby boy is 10 months old today.

A perfect 10.

Like the top score on judged events in the Olympics.

Executed perfectly.

You might be thinking that judges are subjective.

That's why two different judges might score a 1 and a 10 for the same dive.

But every now and then, all the judges agree.

Perfect 10's across the board.

Sometimes it's just that obvious.

Sometimes it's undisputable.

Sometimes it's not gray...

it's black and white!

My baby boy is 10 months old today.

A perfect 10!

Lots of love,
Titi and Radar

PS - Sorry Marco... he's perfect, but no steps yet... you lose!

The toy that was left behind

I thought I'd cleaned everything up before bedtime...

But I think I forgot to pick up one of the toys...

Can anyone spot which toy was left behind?
