Up and down

Since I don't let Radar climb the bookshelves, he's had to go and find something else to climb.

Mission accomplished!!!

Place your bets

Ok, the prediction is in!

You remember that last year Radar was asked who would win Super Bowl 43...

...and he picked the Cardinals.

Ok, so he was wrong last year, but he was really close... and he says that he understands the game much better now. He now understands helmets and balls (although he's still a bit fuzzy on whether balls are made for throwing or eating).

So he offered to once again make his prediction.

He strapped on his helmet.

Ran down the field...

...and made his pick!!!

So if I were you, I'd go ahead and place your bets!!!

Head Banger

What's with all this 20% crap!?!

As it turns out, my Radar is a head banger!

No, not this...

Well, kind of actually.
  • He will sit next to a wall and repeatedly bang his head (hard sometimes).
  • He'll sit in his high chair and repeatedly whack his head backwards onto the wooden seat

(ok, so it's really hard to capture hand banging with still shots... I'll have to video it sometime).
  • He'll lay face down on the floor with his arms poised like he's going to do a push-up and lift his head and whack it repeatedly on the floor.
  • He'll even, if you're not paying attention, thrust his head forward and head butt you (or nose butt you which I can testify is NOT a pleasant occurrence).
He's been doing it for some time, but it's getting worse. So I go to my buddy google and look it up. And there it is, plain as day, "head banging isn't as uncommon as you might think. About 20% of kids head bang!" There you have it... Radar in another 20% bucket. But I read further and it said that boys are three times more likely to head bang than girls. So, doing the math, that actually means that about 30% of boys head bang... that makes me feel a little better... only a little.

As for the rest of what I read, none of it caused me any alarm. It's just a way that some kids calm themselves or relieve frustration or deal with fatigue. That seems to fit with Radar's behavior. They say it peaks from 18 to 24 months and most bangers give it up altogether by 3 years.

So I guess I better get used to it (and get a catcher's mask) because it seems that my little head banger is just getting started!!!

Lots of love,
Titi and Radar

PS - Don't worry... the last picture above does not mean that Radar is sad. This next picture was taken about 1 minute after the serious one. He goes from contemplative to cracking up in a fraction of a second. He's so funny!!!

Guess where I spent the night last night?

That's right!

And despite all the anxiety leading up to it...

despite all my worries about how much I'd miss Radar...

and how much Radar would miss me...

I was fine!

Radar was fine!

How's that you ask?

Well, the thing is that...

That's right... I love being NY!

What? That doesn't make sense?

Well, you know how greater powers (my boss) itervened and postponed my trip to Cayman last week?

It seems that even greater powers (mother nature) intervened and cancelled my flight to New York yesterday.

Since I didn't find out about the flight cancellation until the middle of the afternoon, it was too late to get on another flight that would get me to New York in time for this morning's meeting.

I spent last night NY...

"Near Yummy"

I was happy...

I think Radar was happy too...

really happy!!!

So, sooner or later I will have to leave Radar for a night or two...

but NY...

(not yet)!!!!

Lots of love,
Titi and Radar

PS - I'm not sure what this is about, but last night Radar discovered that his Pooh Easter book has a handle and after that, he started carrying it around like a purse. Hmmm....

Upward mobility

Do you see that blue and orange thing next to Radar's toy box? You might think that looks like the 'Sit n' Spin' that Tia Marco gave Radar for his birthday... which case you would be wrong. That there is what we call the 'Step n' Climb'. It's Radar's favorite step ladder because when he steps on it, it makes music (which also alerts mommy that Radar is on the climb!)

"So what's the big deal?" you ask. Radar climbs into his box and picks out the toys he wants. Is it that I'm worried he'll fall out of his box and go BOOM!

Not really. See, the toy box is not actually a toy box. It is just the next step along his climb!!! And if the toys inside are not piled high enough...

... then you simply keep moving up, using the rim on the toybox.

And if that's not high enough, well then there's the safety gate and book shelves themselves. Radar is fearless... undaunted by that silly force called gravity. Mommy, on the other hand, is very daunted by the risks that my little scaling monkey is taking and at this point, I had to step in and gently place Radar back on the floor....

Which Radar was not at all happy about!!!!

Of course just minutes after this last picture was taken, he was back on the 'Step n' Climb' and once again movin' on up!!

Oh boy....

Tired of the spotlight!

I think my little Superstar has just about had it with having his picture taken every single time he does anything at all...

I mean, come on... he can't even hang out on mommy's lap without her pulling out the big black machine that goes flash and that he's not allowed to touch. That's ridiculous!

But mommy is going to New York on Monday and will be spending a night away from her monkey for the first time, so she's gonna need lots and lots of pictures to get through. And she happens to think that Radar is Superstar cute even when he's disgusted, so too bad kiddo!

Lots of love,
Titi and Radar

PS - the winner of the New York Palance slippers is.... ME!!! I'll admit that the pictures I posted did not give much of a hint as to what Radar had nearly chewed to pieces. But it was hard to get a picture that was a little more revealing without being totally revealing... one of those all or nothing things I guess. Anyway... here's the answer!

Not just yet, my dear

"Mommy, I'm very tired. Can I go to sleep?"

"Not just yet, my dear. We have one thing left to do."

"Ok, and what am I supposed to do with this?"

"Do what mommy's doing."

"Like this mommy!?"

"Almost, my love."

"You mean like this?"

"That's it my sweet boy!"

"That was easy enough.
Any of you out there need me to teach you how?"

Lots of love,
Titi and Radar

PS - Here's a little contest for you... What is depicted in the following two pictures?

First to guess correctly wins "New York Palace" slippers (I steal them whenever I stay at the hotel, which is next Monday!)

Just another bit of good luck

In some recent posts I've talked about the idea of "luck" really just being one of perspective.  If you're an optimist, then you can always find luck in even the worst situations.  If you're a pessimist, then luck seems to avoid you in even the best situations.

As I also mentioned in a recent post, I was set to spend my first night away from Radar this Monday.  I had my flight to Cayman booked and my hotel reserved.  We had meetings scheduled for yesterday morning and then I had my flight leaving Cayman at 1:30pm right after the meetings.  But one week before the trip was set to take place, I got an e-mail from my boss saying that the plan had been turned on its head at the last minute and that we would have to reschedule our trip.  Obviously I wasn't disappointed because it meant that now I wouldn't have to leave Radar for a night until next week (New York).  It was just another bit of good luck for this optimist!

And then I read this...

So, it's hard not to feel lucky for having missed that... on the other hand, when I look at Haiti, I know that had I been in Cayman for their small quake, I still would have felt lucky.  How could any of us not feel lucky when we see the news coming out of there?

I remember that after 9/11 there was a global sentiment that "we're all Americans now."  That's how I feel about Haiti right now... "we're all Haitians now."  And on that somber note, I'll sign off...

What Radar has to look forward to...

We had a little belated birthday party for Radar yesterday along with an early birthday party for his buddy Jack (Radar turned 13 months and Jack turns one year in a week). The house was crammed with monkeys who had a great deal of fun testing every single toy in Radar's collection.

This is Jack

Some of the highlights were:

More cake!

And ice cream!

Pretty girls...

...including Marilyn Monroe!!!

We also got our baby leashes in the mail and got to test them out for the first time. How did that go? Well, it gave me a glimpse into Radar's future...

One girl keeping him on a short leash while the another pets him because he's being a good boy. Get used to it Radar!

Lots of love,
Titi and Radar
