Yesterday we were invited to a birthday party for Radar's buddy Nicholas (the big 2!) Outside of a couple of minor tantrums, Radar had a veritable blast!
He didn't much care for the jumpy house, but there were plenty of trucks and slides to keep him busy.
And as usual, near the end of the party, there was Radar's favorite part... the cake! The theme of yesterday's party was Sesame Street - in particular, Elmo.
And although Radar doesn't normally eat pure garbage at home, I don't worry too much about that when we travel or go to parties. So when they rolled out the Elmo cupcakes and Radar politely asked for one (ie "dame, dame, DAME!" translating to "give me, give me, GIVE ME!"), I went ahead and let him have one.
If you look closely, you'll see that there were health warnings posted on the cupcakes and maybe, at least on this occasion, just maybe I should have read the warning label on the cupcake!!!
"Elmo cupcakes contain ingredients that may be harmful to children; ingredients include large doses of red food coloring, sugar and high fructose corn syrup, which studies show contribute to childhood obesity, childhood diabetes, increased occurrences of dental decay, trouble sleeping and hyper-activity. Some very troubling studies have also shown that consumption of Elmo cupcakes may cause acute elmotosis in some children, causing them to actually begin turning into Elmo!"
Lions and Tigers and Bears... oh my!!!!
Lots of love,
Titi and Radar

Yes, yes... we're still here. I have not decided to quit blogging just because I've been shown up by some lady who's a bit more creative than I am. And it isn't that I don't blog because nothing happens. I've always known that these early years for us humans are phenomenal with respect to how much and how we learn to do everything that we take for granted as big people. Walking, talking, colors, objects, eating, socializing... everything. But this is really the first time I've gotten to witness this age first hand, day in and day out. It is awesome to witness, but it isn't always very easy to capture in photos or words. So much of the learning is so subtle. And some is kind of explosive (that would be the testing mommy and socializing areas in particular).

No, not a dude... a dud. See, if I ever thought that I was a creative mother, then I've been put into my place today. Here I am thinking I'm all nifty and creative because I'm actually planning out Radar's Halloween costume two months in advance... I'm not creating it from scratch, but I will be doing some sewing and modifying. Does that make me creative? Not even close. I keep this blog principally for Radar since I'm too lazy to put together photo albums or baby books or scrap-books. But even here I'm falling apart. On a good week I post twice. I try to find inspiration to be creative at least on Radar's blog, but whatever success I thought I might have had doing so has been trounced on today.

A couple of days ago I did a post about Vivi & Rafa's baby shower. I explained that unlike some baby showers where only ladies attend, this one included men and I said how much men love baby showers these days. I will now admit that I may have been being a bit disingenious. To put the cherry on my sarcasm about how 'real men love baby showers', I posted this picture of my cousin Rafa at his baby shower.

As mentioned in my previous post, this past weekend was action packed. So let's drill down a bit into the specifics of the events. I briefly mentioned that on Friday night we attended a baby shower. For those of you who weren't there, you might be imagining a blushing mom-to-be and a bunch of smiling ladies gathered in a circle saying "awwwwww" and "how sweeeeeet" on cue every time a new little baby outfit is held up for the showing.

We've been a bit quiet on the blog. That is utterly NOT an indication of what's been going on though. Last Thursday we headed over to Florida to spend the night at Grammy's. Then Friday morning we hopped on a plane to Washington, DC to attend a Friday night baby shower and a great big bike riding family reunion in Virginia over the weekend. Monday morning we were back on a plane to Florida where Radar's mom had her wisdom tooth pulled and finally yesterday we hopped on our 4th plane of the weekend to come back home.

Maybe dragging Radar away from his nap to go to Skylar's birthday on a very hot and humid afternoon didn't go as well as planned. Maybe he didn't crack one single smile during the hour and a half that we were there. Maybe he didn't get a kick out of being made to dress up like a pirate.

Hurricane Earl's eye is 400 or 500 miles north of us by now and Tropical Storm Fiona's gentler eye is about the same distance to the east of us... no matter though... the warm sea that fuels these storms shows her mood even all these miles away.
